Sir John Heron Primary School

Together we learn. Together we achieve.

Remembrance Day

For Remembrance day this year, a ceremony was held at Manor Park Library and we were very fortunate to be invited as it is a very special occasion that has not been held locally for many years. Four of our wonderful prefects represented Sir John Heron Primary School at this event, in which it was our role to close the ceremony. Our children confidently delivered ‘The Act of Remembrance’ which was followed by a 2 minutes silence to remember all the soldiers who bravely fought in WW1 and WW2. We also read ‘The Kohima Epitaph’ after the whistle was blown, which signified the end of the 2 minutes silence. The ceremony was organised by Leslie Solomon, a passionate local resident, and in attendance were also the community neighbourhood officers and MP Stephen Timms. Our school was also presented with a certificate of appreciation and we were also able to place wooden sticks representing different faiths amongst the poppies to show the diversity of cultures and religions present in our local community.
