Stone Carving in Year5
This term, some children in year 5 had the opportunity to work with a stone mason to create pieces of art. In order to gather ideas, they visited local buildings such as the old Manor Park Library as well as a temple to make observations of the carvings used on these buildings. Back at school, they sketched their ideas for their carvings they would like to create. Following this, they went outside and started carving the process: they sketched the drawing onto the stone and then used chisels and hammers to help shape the stone. In the final session, they added the finishing touches and were very proud of their amazing work!
