Starting School for the first time (Reception)
In Newham, children start primary school (Reception) in the school year during which they have their fifth birthday. Entry is in September.
We inform all parents with children on our waiting list when it is time to apply for your child’s Reception place. If your child’s name is not on our waiting list, you can come to the school and pick up a 'Starting School' booklet. This can also be found online here: https://www.newham.gov.uk/Documents/Education%20and%20learning/StartingPrimarySchool.pdf
Reception Admission for entry from September 2020 (2020/21 academic year)
If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, you will need to apply for a reception class place in an infant or primary school for September 2020.
If your child lives in Newham you will need to apply via London Borough of Newham. But if your child lives outside Newham, but you want him or her to go to school in Newham, you will need to apply through the local authority in the borough you live in.
Remember, you must always apply for a place, even if your child:
· Already attends the nursery of your preferred school
· They have a brother or sister who attends the schools
