  • Reception Educational Visit- Gruffalo Trail

    Thu 31 Mar 2022

We explored the magic of the deep dark wood with all the characters from the story 'The Gruffalo'. We saw the Gruffalo, Mouse, Fox, Owl and Snake on our trail through the woods. We enjoyed exploring the woods but were rather cold, however, we will cherish these memories forever.

This morning we had a fantastic Family Friday session on 'Healthy Living'. We had some lovely activities which focused on oral health (brushing teeth), making good food choices and exercise. • Year 3&4 Healthy Eating Workshop

    Fri 25 Mar 2022

On Thursday morning some of our parents/ carers from year 3 and 4 joined us for a SJH Fit 4 Life workshop. We looked at how much sugar is in some of the foods we eat on a daily basis and how we could switch to making healthier snack choices. Most excitedly we prepared Granola Pots and Ryvita Fruit slices together.

  • Year 5 Parent/carer Geography Workshop

    Tue 22 Mar 2022

Parents/carers in year 5 joined us today in school, and showcased their creative skills. They had to use material such as cardboard, masking tape, dowels, lolly sticks and clay to recreate one of the main structures in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. They worked very well in teams to create these!

Some parents/carers shared their thoughts afterwards:

"It was nice to experience something with the children. Thanks to the school to give us the opportunity to participate in the workshop with the children."

"Had an amazing time helping children with their Geography project. It got us creative and made children think of ideas to make the stadium."

    "Educative, interactive and fun." â€‹

  • Ark Farm at Sir John Heron!

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

It has been a spectacular day at SJH today, not only because we have been dressed in red for Red Nose Day, but because we have also had the lovely Ark Farm in our school. Children have had the opportunity to look at and pet the animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoise, sheep, lamb, donkey, goats and owl). We also had our toddler friends join us from our Stay and Play sessions, as well as new toddlers for this special session.

  • Year 6 Lamb Heart Dissection

Tue 15 Mar 2022 Ayaat in Jesse Owens Class

During Science today, we were dissecting a lamb heart. First, we put on aprons and vinyl gloves to protect our hands and clothes from the bacteria in the hearts. Secondly, we read a risk assessment and followed it. We started by observing the heart and using adjectives to describe what we saw. After observing the heart, we picked up the heart and described what we felt. Surprisingly, it was quite lighter than I expected it to be. We cut the front side of the heart through the middle and inspected the heart and labelled the inner parts. We all took turns to cut different parts we thought that would make an interesting result. Remarkably, the heart was pretty similar throughout. I enjoyed this lesson because it was something new and interesting that we haven’t done before ; I would like to do this again with a different body part or maybe an animal. I would give this whole experience a 7/10 as it had some ups and some downs and some parts were quite messy and disgusting but it was a great experience and was memorable.
