• SEND Easter Workshops

  This week at Sir John Heron we held SEND Easter Workshops. These workshops were specifically designed to engage our students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in a fun and enriching Easter-themed activity. Utilising the principles of Attention Autism, our dedicated team led parents and children through interactive sessions aimed at enhancing attention and sensory experiences. The highlight of these workshops was undoubtedly the creation of Easter bonnets, where participants had the opportunity to explore various tactile materials such as feathers, knobbly eggs, and adorable bunnies. It was heartening to witness the joy and creativity unleashed as families worked together to craft beautiful bonnets, fostering a sense of collaboration and accomplishment within our school community. We are excited to showcase these wonderful creations and celebrate the talents of all our students.

  

• Silly Science Workshops

  All pupils at SJH had the opportunity to participate in Silly Science Workshops on Friday 15th March. All children were bubbling with excitement as they saw wacky experiments. Amidst giggles and wide-eyed wonder, they eagerly explored the magic of science, turning ordinary materials into extraordinary discoveries. These workshops ignited their curiosity, fostering a love for experimentation and sparking imaginative inquiry in their young minds.

  

• Morning and Full Time Nursery Visit Discover Children's Story Centre

  Earlier today, the morning and full time children in the nursery visited Discover Children's Story Centre in Stratford. They travelled by bus and were astonished by all the tall buildings they saw en route! Upon arrival, they met the story builder, who prepared them for their journey in a magical world! It was filled with a giant slide, boat, rocket and secret cave! Before they made their way back to school, the story builder and children created a story together about a dinosaur and mouse. It was a very memorable visit indeed!

  

• Thursday Together in Reception

  Earlier today, Reception parents and carers visited the school for Thursday Together. The focus was 'Healthy living - oral health and basic hygiene' and children had a blast showing their skills and knowledge to their families. It was a very enjoyable morning, as demonstrated by the feedback given by parents/carers:

   

  'Tajriyaan was very happy to decide which food is bad and good for teeth, and playing outside, riding a bike. We enjoyed the session.'

   

  'Etta loved making her fruit skewer. Her favourite fruit was the pineapple. She had a great time on the bikes and showed excellent patience and turn taking. Great to see!'

   

   

  

• Celebrating World Book Day 2024

  Everybody at Sir John Heron Primary School celebrated World Book Day with great enthusiasm and joy, igniting a passion for reading among its pupils. The school transformed into a literary wonderland, as students and teachers alike embraced their favourite book characters with colourful costumes and engaging activities. From classic characters like Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland to modern heroes like Matilda and Percy Jackson, the classrooms echoed with the excitement of literary adventures. Throughout the day, students focused on a specific fairytale story in their class and participated in storytelling sessions, book-themed quizzes, and creative writing workshops linked to their particular fairytale, fostering a love for literature and imagination. The celebration not only highlighted the importance of reading but also encouraged pupils to explore new worlds and expand their horizons through the magic of books. As the day came to a close, parents and carers were invited to join in with the reading sessions taking place in each classroom, marking a memorable celebration of the joy of reading at Sir John Heron Primary School.

  

• Afternoon Nursery Visits Discover Children's Story Centre

  On Monday 4th March, afternoon nursery visited Discover Children's Story Centre in Stratford. They travelled by bus and were astonished by all the tall buildings they saw en route! Upon arrival, they met the story fixer, who prepared them for their journey to space! What a magical world they arrived in... It was filled with giant snails, bees and ladybirds, a special grocery store, picnic area and even a beach! When they returned to earth, the story fixer read them the book 'Look Up!' before they made their way back to school. Next week, morning and full time nursery will have a chance to visit Discover Stratford.
