  • Girls Tag Rugby

    Wed 18 Sep 2019
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 Girls Tag Rugby squad who have been training every Tuesday after school for their upcoming Sports Tapscott Girls Tag Rugby competition on 27th September. Their attitude, behaviour, respect and determination stand out and make them excellent role models for the other children in our school.

  • School Parliament Elections

    Tue 17 Sep 2019

This afternoon, children from Year 2 - Year 6 voted for who they want to represent them in the School Parliament! Children wishing to be representatives had made campaign videos to convince their classmates to vote for them in the election.

The elections took place in the Hub and were very official - there were voting cards for the children to vote for one candidate and we even borrowed the polling booths and ballot box from the Local Council!

Good luck to all the children who are hoping to become our new School Parliamentarians! The children who are elected will be announced in school later this week!

  • Harvest Festival Food Collection

    Fri 13 Sep 2019

Harvest Festival celebrates a successful yield for farmers across the    country, and focuses on providing charitable donations to those most in need. This year, we are supporting Caritas Anchor House, a vital local charity in Newham who support homelessness in the borough.

To support this cause, the school is appealing for donations of dry, tinned, long-life goods, and food that can be safely stored at room temperature in a sealed container.

If you are able, please donate:

    · Tinned foods (vegetables, fruit, meat, fish)

    · Spreads (jam, honey, etc)

    · Long-life milk, fruit juice and drinks

    · Dried pasta and rice

    · Cooking sauces

    · Condiments

    · Tea and coffee

    · Cereal

    · Toiletries (new in packaging)

Our collection table will be set up at the main office throughout September - please come along and drop off any donations, or pass these to your children to bring to the office!

Thank you to everyone who donates to this cause!

  • Dinner Winners!

    Fri 13 Sep 2019

Congratulations to all the children who won the Value of the Week award in assembly!

This week in the EYFS, these children demonstrated the school value, Proudasaur, whilst in KS1 and KS2, children have demonstrated the value of Responsibility!

Well done to all of the winning children who were rewarded with a special lunch with our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Howell.

Next week's value is Resilience. Work hard and don't give up if it becomes difficult!

  • Ship of Tolerance - 6th September

    Fri 06 Sep 2019

You may remember that Jesse Owens Class (previously Darwin Class) took part in an art project last year, working with international artists to create sails around the theme of tolerance. Over the summer, these sails (along with sails made by children from thirty-nine other London primary schools, from Great Ormond Street Hospital and from refugee centres in Birmingham, Leeds, Peterborough and Calais) were used to create an art installation called the 'Ship of Tolerance'. It is currently displayed on the River Thames as part of the 'Totally Thames Festival'.

Why not head down to the Tate to see it in all its glory?

The Ship of Tolerance will set sail to leave London on Sunday 6th October.

  • Special Guest: Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP

    Fri 06 Sep 2019

In assembly this morning, we had a very special guest visit: Stephen Timms MP for our area came to talk to children about the important British Value of democracy.

This was part of the launch of the School Council, which from this year will be called the School Parliament. Children are currently making campaign videos to show their class to try and persuade their peers to vote for them in the School Parliament election, which will be happening soon!

  • Welcome Back!

    Wed 04 Sep 2019

    Welcome back!

We hope that you and your family have enjoyed a wonderful Summer Holiday and we look forward to working with you again this year.

We are excited to welcome three new staff to Sir John Heron; Ms Rasoda (Yellow Class), Ms Ali (Darwin Class) and Ms Slocombe (Music Instructor).

This year the School Community is working hard to ensure that our school is a healthy and active place for children to have the best possible start in life. We have tweaked our school dinner menu to offer daily fresh fruit and natural yoghurt alongside crackers and cheese. On “Treatwise Friday”, a low sugar dessert option will be available as a special treat.

Additionally, we will no longer be able to handout any treats/sweets/chocolates or other items on children’s birthdays. The school will celebrate every child’s birthday in class and your child will receive a small gift from the school to wish them a happy birthday.

We hope that parents will support the school in working carefully to ensure that children are healthy and active throughout their childhood and beyond.

I look forward to seeing as many parents/carers as possible at our parent workshops over the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, the senior staff on the school gates or the main school office.

    Best wishes,

    Ms Broughton
