Handball in Year 4 - W/B 29.06.26

This week in year 4, it was our last lesson on handball. At the beginning of the lesson, we spent time recapping and going over all of our skills and rules we have learned over the term. The children then picked their teams and got into a tournament. The games were 5 minutes each, after we switched around so every team played each other. It was 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. At the end, we added up the all teams points to see who was the winning team of the tournament.

Athletics in Year 3 - W/B 15.06.26

This week in year 3, we continued our athletics unit. In previous weeks, we have been focusing on our running and throwing events. This week, we looked at our final event which was jumping. Our first activity was a fun game where the children had to cross to the red cone and back by using hoola hoops, they had to throw down the hoop, jump into it and repeat until they got to the cone. We then moved onto our standing long jump and triple jump. Year 3 first worked on the standing long jump, learning the technique and making sure they land their jump. We then worked on our final jump which was triple jump. The children learned the technique which is hop, skip and then jump. The children spent time practicing this, trying to beat their previous jump.

Using Scooters in Reception - W/B 08.06.26

This week in reception we continued to look at our unit for this term which is “playing through games”. This is where we learn how to do certain activities through playing games. This week, we looked at how we can travel around and to make sure we can control our “vehicle”, today’s vehicle was our scooters. The children first practiced making sure they stayed in their designated lanes. After we added a cone at the opposite end, this was for the children to control their turning and making sure we did it safely. Our final game was the traffic light game. When children approached a red cone they had to stop, on their way to the yellow cone they had to go slowly, finally when approaching the green cone they had to go quickly. Next week, we will move onto bikes and look at different ways we can travel on them.

Athletics in Year 6 - W/B 01.06.26

This week in year 6, we started our athletics unit. The event we were focusing on this week was our running. Throughout the lesson we participated in different races. Our first race was to run and get a cone from the other end, the first team to finish their stack of cones won. The next race was a race up to the cone, around it and back. Our final race was the relay race. In the upcoming weeks we will be focusing on throwing and jumping events.
