Year 3
Welcome to the Violet and Indigo Class page!
2025-26
Programming (Computing) - W/B 29.06.26
This week, the children in year 3 used Scratch. They created their ‘sprites’ and added their desired background. The children were able to make their sprites move and speak. Children worked in pairs to create this and then shared their work with the class.
Lost Cities (Reading) - W/B 22.06.26
This week for reading, the children read about ‘Lost Cities’. Troy was the city that the children explored this week. While the teacher read, children shouted ‘stop’ when they came across key vocabulary and underlined it. The children then used a dictionary or Kids Wordsmyth to define the key vocabulary.
Religious Symbols in Islam (RE) - W/B 15.06.26
In RE we have been looking at signs and symbols. We learnt how Muslims have art and symbols in their place of worship. We recapped some of the Muslim artefacts and discussed why Muslims use them. We looked at the prayer mats, tasbih, topi. We learnt that some prayer mats have the Kaa’bah and others have patterns. We also designed our own prayer mats using colouring pencils or oil pastels.
Parallel and Perpendicular Lines (Mathematics) - W/B 08.06.26
This week in mathematics, the children have been looking at parallel and perpendicular lines. Children created two lines and faced each other. This showed that two lines which never meet are parallel lines. Then, children stood in those lines and met at a right angle. This showed the children what a perpendicular line looks like.
Oscar's Lion (English) - W/B 01.06.26
In English we immersed ourselves in our new book called ‘Oscar’s Lion’.
We found out what happened in the first chapter. We described the sudden absence or emptiness of the room and placed it on the material. We also created freeze frames to explore how Oscar is feeling about the appearance of the lion.
