Immersive Food Session in Year 5
Tue 28 Jan 2025On Monday, year 5 pupils took part in an engaging and immersive lesson centered around their new book, The Princess and the Peas. The lesson explored how food can bring people together, just as it plays a central role in the story. Early in the book, there’s a potluck at the local church where the main character, Ma Sally, serves up her famous dishes. As the town’s best cook, Ma Sally believes no woman is worthy of marrying her son unless she can cook like her. To bring the story to life, the pupils had the chance to taste a dish inspired by Ma Sally’s culinary prowess—black-eyed peas—and it was absolutely delicious! The lesson not only deepened their connection to the book but also gave them a taste of South Carolina’s rich food culture.

Visit to the Houses of Parliament
Tue 28 Jan 2025On Monday, 27th January the school’s prefects as well as MPs paid a visit to the
Houses of Parliament. Here is an account as written by a pupil in year 6:
When we arrived, we were handed specialized headphones that provided clear, informative commentary on the building's rich history. The tour highlighted key moments in political history, such as the powerful tide-inspired window symbolizing the fight for democratic equality and women’s voting rights. We also explored rooms filled with statues of past Prime Ministers, including Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill, and got a close-up view of the Serjeant at Arms. The tour culminated in the iconic chamber where M.P.s debate—though we aren't allowed to sit in Sir Keir Starmer's special seat! This visit offered us a unique and engaging insight into the heart of British politics.
