Year 5 Visits Greenwich Park
Fri 23 May 2025Year 5 visited Greenwich Park on the last day before the half term break to explore the Millennium Sundial. We noticed that the sundial had a bronze gnomon (a vertical rod or pillar that casts a shadow to indicate the time), which was taller than all of us! We learnt that the sundial was installed in the year 2000 and designed by Chris Daniel. We had a great day out in the sun!

Stone Carving in Year5
Thu 08 May 2025This term, some children in year 5 had the opportunity to work with a stone mason to create pieces of art. In order to gather ideas, they visited local buildings such as the old Manor Park Library as well as a temple to make observations of the carvings used on these buildings. Back at school, they sketched their ideas for their carvings they would like to create. Following this, they went outside and started carving the process: they sketched the drawing onto the stone and then used chisels and hammers to help shape the stone. In the final session, they added the finishing touches and were very proud of their amazing work!

Year 1's Visit to Valentine's Park
Thu 08 May 2025Year 1 students visited Valentine’s Park as part of their science learning to explore trees and plants throughout the changing seasons. By returning to the park in autumn, winter, spring, and summer, the children were able to observe how trees and plants change over time. They noticed differences in leaf colour, plant growth, and the presence of flowers or seeds in each season. This hands-on experience helped them understand seasonal changes in the natural world and supported their learning about the life cycles of plants. The regular visits encouraged curiosity and observation skills.
