  • Diversity Day

    Fri 23 Oct 2026

Celebrating our vibrant school community, today marked our annual Diversity Day—a vibrant showcase of cultures, traditions, and unity across the entire school.

Pupils and staff arrived in colorful traditional clothing representing heritage from all corners of the globe, transforming our hallways into a celebration of world cultures. Throughout the morning, each class immersed itself in studying a specific country, exploring its unique history, music, geography, and art. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a rich and diverse school community, where every student brings unique perspectives and traditions that enrich our shared learning environment.

The excitement continued after lunch when parents and carers joined us to take part in a variety of interactive activities.  Seeing families, students, and staff learning and celebrating alongside one another served as a wonderful reminder of the strength and unity found within our diverse school community.

  • Read and Draw in KS1

    Thu 22 Oct 2026

Today, KS1 listened to the story The Pencil by Allan Ahlberg. Feeling inspired, children drew characters like the boy and dog, alongside park features including trees, flowers and a playground. Noticing everything lacked colour, they used vibrant watercolours to bring their art to life before proudly retelling the story to their partners. Fantastic creativity, KS1!

  • The Never-Ending Comic!

    Thu 22 Oct 2026

Today, our Key Stage 2 pupils embarked on an extraordinary nationwide creative journey, joining forces with iconic Beano creators to build a massive, continuous comic story spanning the length and breadth of the UK. In an inspiring collaboration brought to life by Beano and the National Literacy Trust, along with children from across the country, we tuned in for a special live workshop packed with insider tips, illustration tricks, and expert advice on visual storytelling. To guide us on our quest, the session was led by a powerhouse creative team:

    • Chanté Timothy – Acclaimed illustrator and rising star in comic artwork.
    • Mike Stirling – Longtime Beano creative director and comic mastermind.
    • Craig Graham – Beano writer and story architect.

Back in class, we created our own parts of the Never-Ending Comic. Watch this space, as we plan to enter our work for a chance to have it printed in the ‘Beano’ and be seen by people all over the UK!

  • Year 6 Visits Parliament

    Mon 19 Oct 2026

Last week, we had the exciting opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament in London. It was an unforgettable experience that allowed us to explore one of the most important buildings in the United Kingdom and learn more about how our country is governed.

As we arrived, we were amazed by the magnificent architecture of the Palace of Westminster. One of the highlights was seeing the Elizabeth Tower, which houses the famous Big Ben bell. Standing beneath the towering structure was incredible, and we took a moment to admire its detailed design and historic appearance.

During our visit, we also had the opportunity to learn about the work of Parliament and the important decisions made inside the House of Commons. It was fascinating to discover how Members of Parliament debate issues, represent the public and help shape the laws of our country.

The visit was not only educational but also enjoyable. Seeing such a famous landmark in person made what we had learned in school feel much more real. It also helped us understand the importance of democracy and why Parliament plays such a significant role in British society.

Overall, our trip to the House of Commons was both informative and memorable. We left with a greater appreciation of British history, politics and architecture. It was certainly an experience that we will remember for years to come

  • Our Planet Needs You!

    Thu 15 Oct 2026

Today, Sir John Heron participated in an online assembly that introduced us to a project called ‘Our Planet Needs You’. This exciting new initiative is devoted to making our planet a priority and as a school we will do our part by committing to making our local community more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Throughout the year, we will be taking part in monthly challenges set by OPNY and we will be competing against other schools within Newham to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce our waste. As a school, we are looking forward to doing our bit for the environment and we hope to make a difference. Remember sustainability is a lifestyle, not a choice.

  • Year 2 Visits St Michael and All Angels Church

    Wed 14 Oct 2026

This week, the children in year 2 visited St Michael and All Angels Church in Little Ilford. We listened to parables told by Reverend James, including the Lost Sheep, the Prodigal Son, and the Good Samaritan, and discussed what these stories mean and why they are special to Christians. Afterwards, we explored the church to look at various interesting artefacts. It was a great opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in our learning.

  • Year 5 Fire Safety Workshop

    Mon 12 Oct 2026

Children in year 5 participated in an exciting and informative fire safety workshop delivered by the London Fire Brigade. The children learnt about the important role the London Fire Brigade plays in keeping people safe and explored how to contact the emergency services, understanding the different roles of each service. They examined the firefighter’s uniforms and discovered the purpose of each feature. The children also investigated different fire scenarios, identifying potential causes such as matches, candles and cooking. In addition, they learnt about the importance of fire detection, focusing on smoke alarms and how they help to keep us safe. Finally, they discussed what to do if they ever need to escape their home in an emergency due to a fire, developing their knowledge of fire safety and how to respond confidently in dangerous situations.

  • Year 2 Fire Safety Workshop

    Mon 12 Oct 2026

This week, the children in year 2 took part in a Fire Safety workshop with a firefighter from the London Fire Brigade. We looked at hazards in the house and discussed what hazards to avoid and leave for our adults to handle. We then looked at different jobs firefighters do to keep people safe and the uniform they wear. We talked about how quickly firefighters need to get ready and what the alarm sounds like in a fire station to alert the firefighters to an emergency. We got to ask lots of questions and learn how to stay safe in a fire. It was an entertaining and informative visit that we enjoyed very much!

  • Live Call with Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli

    Fri 09 Oct 2026

Some of our children joined a zoom call with professional Chelsea player, Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli. Mahdi is Chelsea’s youngest ever player to appear in the Premier League at 16 years old. During the call, he spoke about how he deals with pressure, what he does when he isn’t feeling the best and that there is always someone to speak to. This coincided with World mental health day. It was a real inspiring call for the children and it was great for them to see that if they ever are struggling with anything in life, there are always ways to help solve problems.
