  • Metacognition Launch Day

    Fri 11 Oct 2024

Metacognition Launch Day was a great success! We were delighted to see such a fantastic turnout of parents, who participated eagerly in the activities designed to introduce the important concept of metacognition.

Metacognition, or ‘learning about learning’, encourages our pupils to think about their own thinking processes. Today, we explored the functions of the brain and how to use our brains to their full functionality, fostering a deeper understanding of how to learn effectively. Through interactive sessions and engaging discussions, children and parents were able to collaborate and discover strategies that can help improve learning outcomes. The children's work was displayed in the Guild's gallery in London, and on 8th July, some of our Year 5 pupils went to see their work on display in the gallery. During their visit, they also had the opportunity to view the highly specialised art work completed by the Guild's artists.

  • Year 5 End of Year Visit to Greenwich

    Tue 09 Jul 2024

On Tuesday, Maroon and Turquoise classes set off for Greenwich via the Elizabeth and DLR lines. Although it was a glum looking day, the looming rainclouds could not curb our excitement on visiting this historical area. Upon arrival, we meandered along the River Thames, observing the ebbing tide and spotting some famous landmarks such as the Old Royal Naval College, the Cutty Sark Clipper, the O2 across the water and even The Shard in the far distance. We then headed towards The Queen's House with its iconic columns and found shelter from the pouring rain inside the Maritime Museum. The museum has many fascinating areas to discover! It was soon lunchtime, and we headed back to the columns near the Queen's House, where we enjoyed lunch with a view. Our adventure was far from over, as we took a detour via the Greenwich foot tunnel, first opened in 1902, towards Island Gardens station, where we boarded a DLR train, making our way back to Manor Park. It was a jam-packed day which we will remember for a long time!
