    Thu 26 Jun 2025

On Thursday, our nursery pupils had a fantastic time at their End of Year Treat, hosted by the entertainers of Party Monsters! The day was packed with laughter and excitement, beginning with lively party games that had everyone on their feet. Following this, the children were mesmerised as they watched an enchanting display of magic tricks. It truly was a day of awe and wonder which left each and everyone with fond memories.

  • NED Resilience Assembly

    Thu 26 Jun 2025

This afternoon, the year 4 and 5 pupils participated in an assembly about resilience. They met Thommey, who introduced them to NED, a cartoon character whose name is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. During the assembly pupils learnt that NED faced a range of challenges, but he never gave up! Thommey even shared some cool yo-yo tricks as well as top tips on how to use a yo-yo. Next week, all pupils will be able to buy these yo-yos in the playground during playtimes, and in the process will help fund another school to have a similar assembly as the one they just had. Let’s pay it forward!

  • Residential Day 2 at Debden House

    Wed 25 Jun 2025

As the sound of raindrops on our tents woke us up this morning, we knew a great day lay ahead. After breakfast, we embarked on a range of activities, led by Essex Boys and Girls. This included archery, orienteering, shelter building, lazer tag, team building and woodwork. As the day came to an end, Ms Ishaq and Ms Shah treated us to pizza before we gathered around the campfire for some delicious toasted marshmallows, under the watchful eye of Mr Mcleod.

  • Residential Day 1 at Debden House

    Tue 24 Jun 2025

We arrived this morning at Debden House Campsite and set up our tents. After enjoying lunch, we had a marvellous time playing with the water guns. We truly got soaked! Some of us took a walk in the forest with Ms Bekker and Mr Dizon, whilst the rest of us played football, board games or just relaxed back at camp under the watchful eyes of Mr Mcleod and Mr Shekoni. This evening, we will enjoy a barbecue before going to bed. We even may squeeze in a night walk! Check back here again tomorrow to see what we got up to!

  • Sing Loud!

    Thu 05 Jun 2025

Earlier today, our wonderful choir had the privilege to work with the talented Rebecca Milford and Rosie Amos, preparing for an exciting singing festival we will participate in later this term. We worked on songs such as 'I can see clearly now', 'You can't stop the beat', 'Something inside so strong' as well as the showstopper 'From now on'. Over the next number of weeks, we will practice each song to ensure we are more than ready to participate in the 'Sing Loud, Sing Newham!' festival at Silverworks Island.

  • Year 5 Visits Greenwich Park

    Fri 23 May 2025

Year 5 visited Greenwich Park on the last day before the half term break to explore the Millennium Sundial. We noticed that the sundial had a bronze gnomon (a vertical rod or pillar that casts a shadow to indicate the time), which was taller than all of us! We learnt that the sundial was installed in the year 2000 and designed by Chris Daniel. We had a great day out in the sun!

  • Family Friday - Expressive Arts and Design

    Fri 23 May 2025

Today in Reception, we celebrated Family Friday with the theme of Expressive Arts and Design. It was a joyful and creative morning as parents joined their children in the classroom to take part in a variety of hands-on activities. Together, they explored painting, collage-making, modeling with playdough, and crafting with different materials. The children were excited to share their imaginative ideas and artistic skills, and it was heartwarming to see families working side by side, laughing and creating together. The event not only encouraged creativity but also strengthened the home-school connection, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.

  • SEND Coffee Morning

    Thu 22 May 2025

A recent coffee morning provided a valuable opportunity for parents and caregivers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to connect, share experiences, and gain expert advice thanks to the attendance of representatives from MENCAP. The session covered crucial topics aimed at empowering parents, including guidance on identifying potential signs of SEND, practical strategies for addressing parenting challenges, and information about MENCAP's available resources and support services. Parents openly shared their experiences and connected with others facing similar situations.

  • Jewellery Making in Year 4

    Wed 21 May 2025

Earlier this week, the children in year 4 had a wonderful art experience with a local artist called Ha. She provided children with wax materials and showed the children how they can make their own jewellery from wax. The children decided to create some rings. Firstly, Ha supported them to size their finger to make a mould before each child decided what design they wanted to create. Two weeks later, Ha returned with the wax pieces which she turned into metal.

  • VE Day Celebrations at SJH!

    Fri 16 May 2025

Today the children engaged in learning about VE Day, exploring its significance and the reasons why we celebrate this important day in our history. To further enhance their understanding, the pupils participated in a variety of creative activities including crafts and baking. These activities allowed them to express their creativity while reflecting on the themes of resilience and unity. In the afternoon, the entire school came together for a delightful afternoon tea party, where students shared their creations and enjoyed the company of their peers. This event not only celebrated VE Day but also fostered a sense of community within our school.
