Reimagining Early Help Parents Focus Group - 5th February
Wed 03 Feb 2021Dear Newham Parents and Carers,
You are invited to attend the ‘Reimagining Early Help Parents Focus Group’ taking place on Friday 5th February, 10am-11.30am via Zoom.
Please note this is separate to our Newham Family Support Workshops taking place every Thursday.
The aim of this Focus Group is to involve parents in review of Newham early help services (including Children Centres, Health Visiting, School Nurses, Early Help family support and similar), and work together to redesign services that are informed by parents experiences and ideas that you can bring to the table.
If you are unable to attend the session, please do not worry, as there will be more sessions we can invite you to be a part of – as part of our co-production – in the future.

Applying for Free School Meals
Tue 19 Jan 2021Applying for Free Schools Meals
Why apply when children in primary schools already receive a free hot lunch in school?
Although all children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 receive a free lunch at school under the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme and those in Years 3 to 6 receive a meal under the Eat for Free programme, we want to encourage all families to apply for free school meals to determine their eligibility for additional benefits.
The benefitsChildren from families who are in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits are currently entitled to much more than a free lunch at school:
- Food vouchers or parcels during the school holidays
- Free places at council school holiday activities
- Additional support at school to raise their attainment
In addition, for every child whose family applies and qualifies for FSM their primary school will receive £1,345 in the budget.
How do I apply?Applying is easy, simply visit Newham website and complete a simple online form. All you need to apply is your name, national insurance number or ARC number and the names of your children. Click here for the website.
I am working, why should I apply? We encourage everyone to apply irrespective of their home or immigration status as we hold you details on file and check them every week to see if your entitlement may change. This ensures no child misses out on any of they may be entitled to.
I don’t want the Council or my school knowing about my finances. Eligibility is determined by the Department for Education’s Eligibility Checking Services (ECS). This only informs council officers and schools if a child is or is not entitled to free school meals based on the information the applicant provided – they don’t get told the reason why or anything about your financial position. -

Supporting Children in Need!
Fri 13 Nov 2020We have been really excited to support Children in Need today! The school has been filled with smiley faces and lots of bright yellow!
Children followed Joe Wicks as he completed his 24 hour PE challenge at 9.25am this morning and joined in with him from the classroom. Following this, children have enjoyed special PE sessions which have taken place throughout the day.
Thank you for all the donations that have been sent into school! We will shortly be counting up the donations and will let you know how much has been raised for BBC Children in Need - watch this space! Plus all of your wonderful long-life food donations will shortly be provided to a local food bank. If you still want to donate, we will still be taking in donations throughout next week. Thank you for all your support!
Our school newsletter will be released on Monday next week with lots of photos from today's special events, including photos of those of you participating from home! In the meantime, here's a few sneak peek photos!
